If you are training for sports, whether it’s competitive or recreational, you may be thinking about taking vitamins or supplements to enhance your performance. These aren’t supplements for health, exactly. They are vitamins or supplements to make you stronger, faster, leaner, or maybe to heal a sports injury. No matter the reason, if you are active in sports and want to see improvement, you are looking for something above and beyond the vitamins and supplements that will just make you healthy.

If you go to the health food store, you will find shelves and shelves of vitamins and supplements that promise almost everything you can possibly imagine. But just how many of these products are worth buying and how many are really just rip-offs? While some of these products are genuine, the majority of them are from companies that manufacture supplements and vitamin combinations in order to make money. For most of these companies, the bottom line is profit. This means that they make their supplements for a little cost as possible and mark them up as much as they can. Combine this with some slick advertising and you have a product that promises much more than it delivers.

Wild exaggerations have been made about products that may only help the user to achieve minimal or no results. The rule of thumb here is that the wilder the manufacturer’s claim, the more likely it is to be untrue. The real vitamins and nutritional supplements that will help you make physical gains aren’t so exciting. They don’t come in really neat packaging and they don’t work miracles. However, they do work. These are the vitamins and supplements that will help you achieve success, not overpromise unnatural results.

1. The first supplement to take is the standard multivitamin. Taken regularly, it will do more for you than any other products combined. Even if you do decide to take extra doses of vitamin C and E, you should still take the multivitamin everyday to make sure that you are getting enough of all the other vitamins you aren’t loading up on.

2. Extra multi-minerals can be taken before or after training. These should help replace any minerals lost through sweat and muscle contraction.

3. Liver tablets are a great endurance supplement. The vitamin B properties of liver help the body use its glycogen more efficiently.

4. Chromium is good for keeping blood sugar stable throughout the day and keeps energy high. If you are on a special diet, it also helps with junk food cravings.

5. Amino acids like L-Carnatine helps maintain lean body mass if you are trying to burn fat. L-Carnatine has been shown to transport long-chain fatty acids into the muscles where they are oxidized and most efficiently burned.

6. There are also protein powders, but these should only be consumed when you can’t possibly consume the amount of calories that you need in order to reach muscle building goals. Be careful with these, however, if you stop exercising or don’t <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DD2D2Q?tag=keeping-fit-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=B001DD2D2Q&adid=1V3QZ8AY0QBF81VWM7FN&"target="_blank"rel="nofollow"title="Barrys Bootcamp Exercise System" >exercise enough, the extra calories from protein powder will go right to the waistline.

Of course, these are vitamins and minerals that can improve your performance, but what if you get hurt? There are vitamins and supplements for that, too.

1. Proteolytic enzymes taken between meals speed healing by destroying free radical that are released during an injury.

2. Protein, in the form of free form amino acids, helps to repair and strengthen connective tissue, ligaments, and tendons.

3. Calcium plus magnesium repairs bones, connective tissue, and also is very important for the entire skeletal system.

4. Vitamin B complex, in addition to the vitamin B already in a multivitamin should be taken during any stressful situation.

As you can see, there isn’t any great mystery to taking vitamins and supplements. Any other promises that manufacturers make are just that, empty promises. If you find that you need more help than what standard over-the-counter supplements can give you, it is best to consult a doctor, preferably one who specializes in sports medicine. They will be able to tell you if there is another product out there that can help you, or if your Olympic dreams will just have to wait.

Obesity, in the most basic terms, is an excess of body fat. Anyone who is over the normal weight for their age and height by 20% or more is considered obese. This is the clinical definition, and no matter how you try to get out of it, being 20% over the norm when it comes to weight makes anyone clinically obese. This is different from being overweight. Being overweight is subject to interpretation, and being slightly over the norm may be just how you are. Obesity is a medical condition and for health reasons should be treated as such. This is because anyone who is obese runs quite a few health risks.

Those who are obese are more likely to experience kidney trouble, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, complications of pregnancy, and psychological problems. Some of the causes of obesity are glandular malfunctions, malnutrition, emotional tension, boredom, bad habits, and love of food. The most important cause of obesity with regards to vitamins and supplements is the issue of malnutrition. This is because your obesity may be partially caused by your body not getting enough of the right vitamins and minerals.

If you are not getting enough of the basic vitamins and minerals needed to function, then it will be harder for your body to metabolize fat. Taking a multivitamin is a good place to start, because if you aren’t eating healthy, it’s not only the extra calories that are causing obesity, it’s the lack of nutrition in your body. Multivitamins are good for obesity because they are readily available, inexpensive to buy, and easy to take. They also contain most of the nutrition that you need when you are losing weight. For example, vitamin B6 removes excess water. Vitamin E is important for fat metabolism. Vitamin C is necessary for normal glandular function. The list goes on, but most of the vitamins and supplements in a multivitamin can help with obesity, including replacing vital nutrients as you lose weight.

Researchers have also found other vitamins and supplements that can help with obesity. Studies have shown that weight reduction can be improved with the use of the combination of the amino acids L-ornithine and L-arginine, enhanced by L-lysine. L-ornithine helps to release a growth hormone lacking in adults that builds muscle and burns fat. This combination works best when the body is at rest. In the same family of amino acids, L-phenylalanine is an appetite suppressant that tells your body you are not hungry. These amino acids are all available at health food stores everywhere.

Getting the right vitamins and supplements is the best place to start if you are obese and want to lose weight, because when you are getting all of the nutrients that you need, you start feeling better. That’s when you will be more successful at a weight loss plan. Simply cutting calories or going on a crash diet will only make you feel worse and can actually endanger your health.

Once you have the right nutrients in your system, you are ready for a diet and weight loss plan. At this point, you can start sensible eating and moderate <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DD2D2Q?tag=keeping-fit-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=B001DD2D2Q&adid=1V3QZ8AY0QBF81VWM7FN&"target="_blank"rel="nofollow"title="Barrys Bootcamp Exercise System" >exercise. Remember, if do start losing weight you can deplete your system of precious vitamins and minerals. No matter what kind of diet you attempt, always keep taking a multivitamin; because if you are cutting calories you may also be cutting nutrients out of your diet.

If you’ve decided to start purchasing vitamins and supplements, you will notice one distinct characteristic about them. They are extremely expensive! If you go to the health food store and only purchase three or four bottles of supplements, the total can easily be well over a hundred dollars. Assuming that each bottle has only a month’s supply, if you are on a serious supplement regimen, it could possibly cost you up to a couple of hundred dollars a month if you buy the premium brands of vitamins. So here are a few tips on how to get your vitamins for the cheapest price and still enjoy the benefits associated with the most expensive name brands.

Tip #1: Don’t pay more for the fancy label. Many vitamins and supplements come in very ornate looking packaging. However, once you start reading the fancy label, if you don’t see any difference between its ingredients and the cheaper brands’ – that’s probably because there is no difference. A lot of times, you are paying more for the name on the bottle because you are paying for the advertising the company puts out. In reality, vitamins from companies with a huge difference in price from other brands actually come from the same factory.

Tip #2: Generic brands are just as good as name brands and cost about half as much. Again, read the label. If the generic has the same ingredients as its competitors; it is the same thing. In fact, many companies put out a generic brand along with their name brand to capture price-conscious shoppers along with their more discerning customers. On some generic labels, you can even see a “distributed by” in fine print on the back of the bottle. Always buy generic when you can to save money.

Tip #3: Most chain supplement stores have a preferred member discount card. If you shop on certain days of the week or by certain products, you can really save a lot of money. These stores also have frequent sales for members-only on all kinds of name brand vitamins and supplements. Most cities have one of these types of stores at the mall, so they are convenient to get to as well.

Tip #4: If you have a favorite brand, check out their website on the internet. They almost always have coupons and special offers that you can take advantage of online, or coupons that you can print off and use locally. It might even be a good idea to get on their e-mail list. That way you can be alerted when they are offering discounts.

Tip #5: Do a search for “cheap vitamins” on the internet. You will be able to find all of the discount vitamin warehouses that deliver cheaply priced name brand vitamins right to your door. This is the best way to save money on vitamins and supplements, because some of these internet vitamin warehouses sell name brand vitamins for over half-off the regular price. Shipping charges are also usually nominal as well.

Tip #6: Buy your vitamins in bulk when you can. If you are buying something like vitamin C for example, and your whole family takes it, you will save money if you buy the larger bottles of it. The same is true of multivitamins. You can also go with a friend who is buying the same supplements and split the larger bottle in half.

Tip #7: Buy synthetic vitamins and supplements when you can. It is always better to buy vitamins that are derived from natural sources. The whole point of buying vitamins is to get nutrients from a natural food source, as opposed to using a synthetic drug. However, the difference between a lot of synthetic and naturally produced vitamins has yet to be determined. In many studies, the difference between synthetic and real vitamins is negligible at best.

Saving money on vitamins and supplements isn’t hard if you pay attention and are always alert for deals. While vitamins and supplements can be expensive, there isn’t any reason to pay more than necessary to stay healthy.

These days, you can buy vitamins and supplements almost anywhere, including the gas station and the convenience store. It seems odd that vitamins and supplements are so readily available these days. It used to be that the only serious place you would really buy vitamins was the pharmacy. However, with the new surge of health foods stores and supplement outlets, there seem to be quite a lot of places to buy vitamins and supplements. Of course, if you don’t want to go shopping at all, you can always order vitamins over the internet.

There are pluses and minuses to buying vitamins and supplements at each outlet, so here is a breakdown of what you can expect at each retail outlet when it comes to purchasing vitamins.

Gas Stations
Amazingly, you can now boost your immune system at the same place where you fill your tank with gas. This is because gas stations and convenience stores now sell vitamins at the counters where you pay for gas and convenience items. These vitamins are sold in individual packages, usually labeled something like “Energy Blast” or “Immune Zap”. Obviously, these overpriced packages are a gimmick to get the harried worker or the professional truck driver to pay almost six dollars for a handful of vitamins. Avoid these vitamins and supplements at all costs.

Grocery Stores
The grocery store aisle used to have a few multivitamins and supplements, but that has changed dramatically over the past decade. Now, in the larger grocery stores, you can usually find an entire aisle dedicated to vitamins and supplements. If you know what you need to buy and you find it cheaper at the grocery store, go ahead and pick it up. In general, however, you should avoid shopping for vitamins at the grocery store unless you are just buying a multivitamin. This is because the vitamins sit on the shelf under fluorescent lighting, which zaps vitamins of their nutrients. They are also stored and stocked by grocery store employees, who probably aren’t educated in the fine point of vitamin handling. This means that you don’t know where the vitamins have been stored before they make it to the shelves.

Pharmacies
Pharmacies are also branching out to include all kinds of vitamins and supplements. Once again, however, these vitamins and supplements are stored under fluorescent lighting. Also, storage is still a concern. While prescription drugs are stored in a controlled environment, vitamins get stored with everything else. So before you purchase them, they may have been stored in extreme temperatures for months before hitting the shelves in the store. The one good thing, however, about buying vitamins and supplements at the drug store is that you can talk to the pharmacist about any interactions that the vitamins you are buying might have with medication that you are already taking.

Supplement Stores
Supplement stores, usually found in shopping malls, are a good place for athletes to find vitamins and supplements. Here, you will find all kind of supplements to boost performance, gain lean muscle mass, and heal sport injuries faster. Many supplements are sold together in packages that claim to produce a desired result in a much more effective and superior way than regular doses of vitamins alone. There are a lot of good products here, but beware of companies that want to sell you overpriced supplements that seem too good to be true.

The Health Food Store
This is the best place to shop for vitamins and supplements if you have a specific brand or type of supplement that you are looking for. If you have read about a new supplement in a magazine or on the internet, the best place to find it is at the health food store. Here, you will not only find almost every vitamin and supplement imaginable, you will also find it in every form. Supplements at the health food store are also stored properly. They are out of the way of sunlight and fluorescent lighting, and kept at the right temperature.

The Internet
The prices are definitely cheaper, and you can find almost anything you want. Again, the only warning here is that you can’t see where these vitamins are stored before you get them. So what you get in the mail may be exposed to almost any condition imaginable.

You probably haven’t ever heard of an antioxidant known as coenzyme Q-10. It doesn’t exactly have a ring to it, but it is one of the vitamins and supplements that are coming to the forefront when it comes to fighting heart disease. Coenzyme Q-10 is a vitamin-like substance that resembles vitamin E, but which may be an even more powerful antioxidant. It also goes by the name ubiquinone.

Coenzyme Q-10 is being hailed by scientists as one of the brightest new antioxidants around for postponing aging and preventing or treating heart disease. It is most easily found in salmon, but it has been synthesized into a supplement that is available at health food stores. Because it hasn’t been tested as much as other vitamins and supplements no one is quite sure of the dosage to take, but as you age, your body produces less of it. This happens around the age of twenty, often leaving most people with a deficit by the age of forty. Studies on the cells of aged and diseased hearts have shown them to have serious deficiencies of coenzyme Q-10. The most sensible way to correct this appears to be to take coenzyme Q-10 as a supplement.

However, no one is quite sure how this untested antioxidant actually works. What they do know is that coenzyme Q-10 is an antioxidant that works similar to vitamin E in that it protects fat molecules being oxidized or damaged by free radicals. It does this by stabilizing the membrane of the fat cells and then giving them a sort of spark of energy to keep them functioning at a normal rate. When you consider that it is the free radicals job to destroy the membranes of good cells and then zap their energy, it easy to see how important coenzyme Q-10 is.

This is why coenzyme Q-10 maintains concentrations in the heart’s muscle cells, which need tremendous amounts of energy to keep a healthy heart pumping at a pace of one hundred thousand times per day. This is also probably why a weak and diseased heart will show very few traces of coenzyme Q-10 when it is autopsied.

Coenzyme Q-10, however, appears to do even more than this to prevent heart disease. This supplement is exceptionally strong when it comes to halting the relentless oxidation of blood cholesterol by free radicals in the blood stream. This is the first step for free radicals to start wreaking the arteries, which will eventually trigger heart attacks and strokes. While it does this more effectively than vitamin E or beta carotene, the difference is that it takes a lot more coenzyme Q-10 to do to this than the other antioxidants. That’s why researchers are puzzled over how much off a dosage to recommend.

There’s even more that Coenzyme Q-10 does for the <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UZFSSO?tag=keeping-fit-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=B000UZFSSO&adid=1CEAP1DP9YJ27Z518SDX&"target="_blank"rel="nofollow"title="Exercise Bikes" >cardiovascular system. It can even help reduce blood pressure. Taking 225 milligrams of coenzyme Q-10 on a daily basis reduced blood pressure in 85% of the patients who took it during one university study. It has been used for this purpose in other countries for decades and has been approved in Japan and Europe for the treatment of congestive heart failure.

Coenzyme Q-10 appears to do a lot more as well. It has also been proven to boost the immune system, lessen allergy attacks, treat asthma, help with ulcers, and also brain disorders. As scientists keep researching, only time will tell how many advantages this antioxidant will provide to the human body. As it becomes more researched, it will hopefully become more understood.

If you are going to take coenzyme Q-10, it is best to take it with food. It comes in pressed tablets, powder-filled capsules and oil-based gel caps. It works well with vitamin E, selenium, and vitamin B complex. Once again, there doesn’t seem to be any downside to taking coenzyme Q-10, so the dosage isn’t limited. The main thing about coenzyme Q-10 is that there doesn’t seem to be a time that is too early to start taking it if you are concerned about heart disease.

Deciding what vitamins and supplements to take depends on what you are using them for. There are so many new vitamin variations and supplements on the market today that it can become confusing as to which vitamins and supplements will work for your particular situation. Researchers are also finding new uses for the standard vitamins found on grocery store shelves. The progress that vitamins and supplements have made is incredible; but if you are feeling left a little bewildered, here is some advice on how to decide what supplements and vitamins you should take.

If you don’t know anything about vitamins and supplements, it’s best to start with a multivitamin if you want to start supplementing your diet to be healthier. You may have friends or coworkers who start making recommendations about all different kinds of supplements that you should be taking, but steer clear of their advice. Otherwise, you will walk out of the health food store with a very expensive parcel of supplements that may or may not be beneficial to your situation.

A good multivitamin will get you started down the road to getting the right dosage of the supplements that researchers deem necessary to prevent most illnesses. Don’t underestimate the power of the multivitamin. It usually has about 20 different vitamins and minerals to get you on the road to good health and prevent most illnesses. Remember, the main point of taking vitamins is to prevent illness, not cure it. So taking the recommended dose of the 20 or so different supplements will put you way ahead of the game if you are already fairly healthy.

Besides a multivitamin, the next step that people take when they want to use vitamins as a method to prevent cancer and other serious diseases is to up their dosage of vitamin C and Vitamin E. These two vitamins have incredible powers to fight cancer and heart disease, and are also a great boost to the immune system. This is why you will see people take extra vitamin C around cold and flu season. If you are taking a multivitamin and want to purchase extra vitamin E and vitamin C, go ahead. Vitamin E and C can both be taken in liberal doses in addition to what you are already getting in your multivitamin.

Other than Vitamin E and Vitamin C, the next vitamin that people are interested in is the B-complex vitamins. This is because a higher dosage of vitamin B compliments what Vitamin E and Vitamin C are already doing with regards to the immune system. Vitamin B also promotes better functioning of the brain.

Basically at this point, if you are taking a multivitamin and extra vitamins C, B, and E, you are essentially taking everything that you can to prevent cancer, heart disease, brain damage, premature aging, bone loss, high cholesterol, diabetes, and high blood pressure. If you want any more help than this, you will really have to look at prescribed medications, particularly when it comes to things like lowering cholesterol. This is because in some cases, illnesses like heart disease, high cholesterol, and cancer may be hereditary.

Don’t be fooled by products that make claims of miracle cures for serious medical conditions. Look on the label of many of these vitamins and supplements and you will find that most of them say “claims not evaluated by the FDA”. This usually means that what the manufacturer is claiming isn’t true. Standard vitamins and supplement will do all of the work they can to prevent disease as much as is possible. This is why you also have to be careful not to over consume vitamins. If you take too much Vitamin C for example, it will just flush out of your system. If you take as much of every vitamin you can, some of them will also cancel each other out, leaving you with no positive effects at all. As well, taking too many vitamins can be poisonous and actually make you sick. The best rule of thumb when it comes to taking vitamins is to stick to the basic vitamins and supplements in the recommended doses.

Stress can come from many things in life and sometimes from a lot of things at once. Stress hits everyone on a daily basis, and most of us can deal with it, but long term stress is another story. This is stress that is beyond someone’s control, like long term financial problems or a family crisis. This kind of stress can wear a person down both physically and mentally, and over time can take its toll.

Although everyone experiences stress, not everyone handles it constructively. The body can handle some stress, whether it is physical or mental. Stress first physically manifests itself through the digestive and intestinal systems. This can result in ulcers, colitis, high blood pressure, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. If these initial conditions are not handled properly, then more serious illnesses can result, including damage to the central nervous system. Anyone who is experiencing long term stress to this degree should seek medical help. In addition, there are vitamins and supplements that can help, especially under care from a doctor.

One of the better amino acid supplements to aid in relieving stress is glutamine. The research on glutamine shows that it is an essential supplement for anyone who is ill and under stress. Glutamine strengthens immunity, and hastens recovery from stress related illnesses. Glutamine does this by strengthening muscles weakened by stress and illness. If you are ill from stress, glutamine is the most important supplement to add to your diet.

If you are going to take glutamine for stress, you should take it in the form of a powder. The powder doesn’t have a taste and dissolves easily in liquids. Glutamine can be taken in higher doses, up to 40, 000 milligrams, with no adverse side effects.

Pantothenic Acid or vitamin B5 is also helpful for healing the damages of stress. Known as the “antistress” vitamin, Pantothenic acid plays a role in the production of the adrenal hormones and formation of antibodies, aids in vitamin utilization, and helps to convert fats, carbohydrates, and protein into energy. It is found in every cell in the body, so if you are low on Vitamin B5, it will affect your entire system.

Plenty of B-complex vitamins are essential for fighting stress. The B-complex vitamins are very important for the proper functioning of the nervous system, which takes a beating during stressful times. Vitamin B-complex injections are immediately helpful in reducing the damage to the immune system. They also aid in improving brain function and reducing anxiety. These kinds of shots can be obtained from a licensed physician.

A combination of 200 to 400 milligrams of magnesium, 10 to 100 milligrams of B-complex vitamins, and 500 to 3,000 milligrams of vitamin C are recommended by the American Holistic Medical Association to relieve stress and repair stress related damage to the body. The magnesium blocks the damaging effects of excess adrenaline. Animal studies show that physical damage cause by stress is minimized by the vitamin B-complex and the vitamin C.

There are also other holistic remedies beside vitamins and supplements that can relieve temporary stress and help you feel relaxed. Holistic remedies include teas, herbs, flower concoctions, aromatherapy and reflexology.

No matter how you look at it, stress can have a great impact on your life. Vitamins and supplements can help a great deal, but they can only do so much. If you are dealing with long-term stress, then it probably best to work out a game plan about how you want to deal with the situation at hand. That is when vitamins and supplements will be of greater use.

If you feel stressed beyond the point where you think that vitamins and supplements will help, then you need to get professional medical help. This may include therapy and stronger medications that will help you until a major problem in your life has been solved. However, if you think you are experiencing minor, everyday stress, then it might be helpful to go the health food store and check out the selection of vitamins and supplements they have for stress.

If you go to the grocery store, health food store, or pharmacy to buy vitamins and supplements for nutritional reasons, you may be surprised at how many different types and varieties there are on the shelves. It used to be that every store where vitamins and supplements were available only had one aisle of these products; but now there are whole sections and even entire stores dedicated to selling vitamins and supplements.

If you read an article on vitamins and supplements and decide to purchase them for nutritional reasons, having this many different products available can be confusing. Each vitamin and supplement may come in several different forms and also different dosages. For example, Vitamin C can come in a liquid form, pill form, or can even be combined with other vitamins to produce a specific result. It can be sold in different doses and even different measurements like milligrams and IU’s that you may not understand. It can also be frustrating to make a choice if there are ten or twenty different brands available.

So if you want to buy vitamins and supplements to boost your health, where do you start? If you are just looking for general health improvement, then you might want to consider a standard multivitamin. A multivitamin has all the nutrients that the human body needs to function normally. A multivitamin is a good idea if you are generally healthy and want to make sure that if you don’t always eat right, you still get the right amount of vitamins and minerals that you need on a daily basis. The great thing about a multivitamin is that the dose of the vitamins is already premeasured so that you get the right amount to supplement your diet.

Some consumers buy vitamins and supplements for help with common maladies like colds and flu. This is one of the biggest markets for vitamins and supplements, because many people would rather buy a vitamin or supplement to prevent colds and flu rather than take medications to relieve the symptoms once they become ill. There are many vitamins and supplements that can help if you think you are coming down with something, but be very careful when you start to purchase vitamins and supplements to prevent a cold. Many companies have very misleading packaging for their vitamins and supplements that promise more than what they can deliver. Just make sure to use common sense when purchasing vitamins and supplements to prevent a cold or the flu.

Many people also purchase vitamins and supplements to cure more serious illnesses like diabetes or cancer. There is still a disagreement in the medical community as to whether this should be attempted, so before buying vitamins and supplements to treat any kind of serious illness, you should consult your doctor. Many doctors who used to be opposed to a vitamin and supplement regimen to cure serious diseases are now open to them as an alternative to traditional medicine. However, even doctors who recommend trying alternative medicine will never have a patient try to cure a serious illness with vitamins and supplements alone.

Vitamins and supplements have come a long way in recent years and the new choices are exciting for consumers who want to improve their health without drugs. The best thing to do when purchasing vitamins and supplements is to read the label to find out which brand and dosage will work best for your particular situation. You can also research vitamins and supplements on the internet, so that when you go to the store, you will know exactly what brand and dosage to buy.

A well balanced diet along with vitamins and supplements definitely promotes optimal health, but it also promotes healthy hair, and in the process slows down hair loss. Vitamins and supplements are able to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease, so why not hair loss? While there are no miracle cures to be found at the health food store, there are quite a few vitamins and supplements that can improve the quality of your hair.

While you should always make sure that you are getting enough of every vitamin and mineral in your diet, there are a few vitamins and supplements that be taken to specifically stop hair loss to some degree. Therefore, it is important to make sure that you are getting enough of these vitamins and supplements in your diet to promote healthy hair.

PABA, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, and folic acid are considered to be the most important vitamins for the hair. These vitamins not only improve the overall quality of the hair, but they also reduce the amount of grey in the hair. It has been shown in studies that these four vitamins used together significantly reduced the amount of grey hair in test subjects in a recent study. Brewer’s yeast, a supplement rich in vitamin B, is also shown to darken hair as well.

Vitamin E is another important vitamin for the hair. The beauty industry has promoted Vitamin E for many years as a hair improvement supplement, and with good reason. Vitamin E has been proven to work to make hair healthy, thick, and luxurious. Besides taking the vitamin itself, there are many other ways to get healthy doses of vitamin E in your diet. Wheat germ and wheat germ oil, rich in Vitamins E and B, are great dietary supplements for getting enough vitamin E to stimulate hair growth.

Minerals are also important to promote healthy hair. Two minerals that promote hair growth, magnesium and potassium, can be found in common multivitamin supplements. Silicon (Silica) is a supplement usually sold as a “healthy nails, skin, and hair” supplement. Silicon is necessary for bone and connective tissue (collagen) formation. Iodine is another trace mineral helpful for hair quality, usually purchased in the form of kelp tablets. The recommend daily dose of vitamin D, which is found in a multivitamin, is important for the proper assimilation of these minerals in the intestines.

Vitamin A and Vitamin F are also important vitamins to take when you want to have healthy hair; however, the best way to get them is through food intake. Vitamin A is more of a benefit to the scalp. It can be helpful with dandruff, and also a dry itchy scalp associated with other medical conditions. It is usually included in a multivitamin in small amounts, but the best place to find it is in cod liver oil. Vitamin F, or the essential fatty acids, are abundantly present in all unsaturated vegetable oils and in raw seeds and nuts. Unsaturated oils in the diet are considered to be valuable to the sebaceous glands, which are located in and around the hair follicles.

While a multivitamin can take care of the basics needed to stop or slow down hair loss, the extra benefits come from the vitamins and supplements that can be found at your local health food store. Taking vitamins and supplements aimed specifically at hair loss is the best way to stop it and the best way to keep a fuller head of hair.
